International Women in Engineering Day 2022

energylab_ founder, Marian Ferguson, reflects on International Women in Engineering Day 2022, in our latest blog post:

Taking place annually on 23 June, National Women in Engineering Day was launched for the first time in the UK in 2014 by the Women’s Engineering Society to celebrate its 95th anniversary.

I first did a blog on this in 2016 and since then it has become an international event, reflecting the level of interest by participants. This is an amazing feat and a fantastic opportunity to promote the work of women engineers in all sectors around the world.

At energylab_ we are proud to have a diverse and inclusive culture and over 30% of our engineering team are female, compared to the national average of 14%.

At energylab_we do not believe in positive discrimination, we believe in investing in the best talent to join us in our quest to make a difference. It just so happens that many are female engineers but their male colleagues are also fantastic engineers.

INWED is something to celebrate, however I welcome the day when the engineering sector is so diverse and inclusive, we do not need to single out any one group. Engineering is a fantastic career and we are all in it together to make the world a better place.

I hope one day all engineers will be recognised for the amazing work they do, irrespective of gender, race, orientation or whatever.

Now that would be worth celebrating!
